Several Arizonans on Wednesday reported feeling a magnitude 5.7 earthquake that struck Salt Lake City at 6:09 a.m. Phoenix time.
The U.S. Geological Survey received reports from as far away as central Phoenix, more than 500 miles away from the suburb of Magna, Utah, nearest the quake's epicenter.
Aftershocks registering 4.5 and 4.6 followed the initial event, which marked the first tremor of magnitude 5 or higher to strike the city since 1962.
The earthquake caused some power outages, damaged buildings and shook the trumpet from the statue of the Angel Moroni atop the Salt Lake Temple, but no serious injuries were reported.
Salt Lake City lies along the Wasatch fault, but the event occurred a bit west of that zone.
