The total number of coronavirus cases within the reservation has grown to 14, officials said late Thursday.
The Navajo Nation reported its first two cases on Tuesday. Officials said earlier this week that the patients from those cases are from Chilchinbeto in northern Arizona.
Officials have now issued a shelter-in-place order for that community to limit the spread of the virus. President Jonathan Nez said the order may be applied to the entire Navajo Nation if reports become widespread.
On Friday, President Nez and Vice President Myron Lizer signed a resolution that appropriated $4 million in funds to the Navajo Department of Health. Officials said the money will pay for medical supplies, food and water supplies, equipment, public outreach, and more.
