The Arizona Department of Corrections has suspended all off-site work crews except for inmates working at Hickman’s Family Farms. It’s the latest step being taken by the Department in response to the coronavirus pandemic.
ADC says an exception is being made for 140 women who live at the Perryville prison and work at the Hickman egg farm.
In a statement, ADC said the women would be temporarily housed on-site at the farm so they can continue performing tasks like raising and vaccinating chickens.
ADC Director David Shinn said the decision to temporarily house inmates at Hickman’s is necessary to “ensure a stable food supply while also protecting public health and the health of those in our custody.”
Six inmates in state prisons statewide have been tested for the virus, and results are pending.
