Some Arizona Hair And Nail Salons Remain Open Despite COVID-19

The Arizona Board of Cosmetology has been criticized for not closing down hair and nail salons across the state.

The one problem? The board’s executive director, Kim Scoplitte says only the individual businesses or the governor has the authority to shut down the businesses.

“We strongly suggest that, you know, they go by the recommendations of the CDC and the Arizona Department of Health Services, but still, it’s very difficult to maintain that social distance in what we do,” Scoplitte said.

She says that even wearing gloves can hinder a hairstylist’s ability to cut hair without something slipping. The recommendation is constant cleaning throughout the day.
