With coronavirus cases reported in 13 counties in the state, the Arizona Department of Health Services said the state’s transmission level has escalated from moderate to widespread.
About 100 new coronavirus cases have been reported in the state since Wednesday, bringing the state’s new total to 508.
As of Thursday morning, Mohave County in northwestern Arizona reported its first three cases and La Paz County in southwestern Arizona reported its first two.
The Arizona health department said the transmission level is considered widespread when there are confirmed coronavirus cases in more than 12 counties.
“Given widespread transmission, all Arizonans should expect that COVID-19 is circulating in their community,” said ADHS Director Dr. Cara Christ.
More than half of Arizona’s cases are in Maricopa County. Pima and Navajo counties have the second- and third-highest number of cases in the state.
Eight people in the state have died from coronavirus as of Thursday morning.
Christ said in a Wednesday press conference that roughly 6,600 Arizonans have been tested.
