The COVID-19 pandemic saw schools around the nation temporarily closing their doors and sending students online. However, some students have needs that cannot be easily met through online tools or resources.
Students with a wide variety of special education needs may have lost access to specialists, mentors and educational devices as a result of school closures, and there is not yet clarity about when that could change. As of March 30, Arizona schools are closed through the end of this school year, leaving officials scrambling to find alternative solutions that fit all students.
The Show talked to Wendy Collison, the special education director for the Phoenix Union High School District, about how families are handling the situation.
