The president of the Navajo Nation has extended an order for casinos and schools to remain closed through the end of April. The tribe has 148 positive cases of the coronavirus and five confirmed deaths as of Tuesday.
FEMA has set up a medical center with 58 beds in Chinle, and President Jonathan Nez says the Navajo Nation has received boxes of protective equipment for health workers from the Strategic National Stockpile.
"Through the counties we've received shipments to the Navajo Nation," Nez said. "But it's quite alarming to hear that some of the shipment that we get won't even last a week."
Navajo police have been given the authority to enforce a curfew from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. and no gatherings of more than five people. The tribe has provided a link for people to report rule-breakers, in order to stop the spread of COVID-19.
