With testing supplies and other coronavirus equipment stretched thin, Arizona State University has shifted resources to help bridge key gaps.
Soon those efforts will receive a much-needed shot in the arm.
The Virginia G. Piper Charitable Trust has provided a $2 million emergency grant to support ASU's coronavirus preparedness efforts.
The university already has converted its gene-based WMD detection kit to COVID-19 testing by swapping out relevant genes.
The Piper funds will bolster the university's work in testing critical workforce like health care workers, producing test kits and personal protective equipment, and supporting drive-through testing at area hospitals.
