As More Work From Home, Energy Consumption Increases

More Arizonans are working at home and that means more electricity consumption.

Scott Harelson with SRP says that usage has increased by 3% to 5%. But another trend is happening simultaneously — early morning use for the utility’s customers is actually going down.

“There’s some initial thoughts about that and one of them is likely people are sleeping in more. They are not having to, they’re not going into the office, they don’t have the commute, and they start at the same time but they don’t have to get up as early and make that commute," Harelson said.

Harelson says the impact of electricity use will most likely change over the next month, especially as the weather warms up and consumption increases.
