Public parks across Arizona are restricting more of their amenities like public restrooms and basketball courts to comply with Gov. Doug Ducey’s stay-at-home order.
In Coconino County, spokesperson Claire Harper says parks themselves will remain open, but services won’t.
"We encourage appropriate physical and social distancing, and have left our natural areas and trails and parks open, but the amenities and restrooms have closed," she said.
In the Phoenix area, Apache Junction is taking similar measures — closing park amenities, but not trails and open space.
"The city decided to go ahead and start closing up our courts, so tennis courts, pickle ball courts, unfortunately very popular in our part of the valley," spokesperson Al Bravo said. "We’re going to keep our trails and some of the open spaces, the green grass spaces in our parks, as well as Silly Mountain, which is a popular area at the end of the U.S. 60."
Those who use parks and trails are urged to keep at least six feet between themselves and other users, and to stay on marked trails and within designated open-space areas.
