After Gov. Doug Ducey declared a major disaster in Arizona over the spread of the coronavirus, President Donald Trump accepted the governor's request.
According to Ducey’s press secretary Patrick Ptak, the declaration opens up federal money to cover some of the state’s expenses during the coronavirus pandemic — like the cost of mobilizing the National Guard.
Regular Arizonans and healthcare workers will see some benefits too.
“Access to mental healthcare for those serving on the front lines, supplemental care for our tribal healthcare system and our tribal healthcare workers," Ptak said. "There’s grants to reduce the risk of loss of life and loss of property for future emergencies, and it also expands assistance for food stamps.”
The declaration also gives Arizonans access to legal and mental health services, and allows the state government to receive federal grants for possible future emergencies.
