Social distancing and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidance to help mitigate the spread of COVID-19 have introduced a particular set of challenges in the criminal justice realm.

Maricopa County Attorney Allister Adel recently directed her team of prosecutors to prioritize charging decisions to reduce the number of people coming into contact with the system.

It’s a move to walk the fine line between public safety and public health — one that could affect the lives of everyone involved.  

The Show spoke to County Attorney Allister Adel for more on how she is personally handling the situation in her office. She started by sharing how she’s gone about reprioritizing what the office does.
