Pac-12 Schools May Turn To Cash Reserves As Coronavirus Shuts Down Sports

A huge variety of spring sports have seen their seasons cut off or delayed in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The most prominent at the college level is March Madness, the annual men’s basketball tournament that generates hundreds of millions of dollars for the NCAA, colleges and universities. Schools won’t be able to make up for those losses, but what are the options?

Schools in the Pac-12, which includes ASU and University of Arizona, might turn to cash reserves. More than a decade ago, the conference started a strategic reserve fund. According to Jon Wilner, who writes the Pac-12 Hotline as part of the San Jose Mercury News, that fund contains more than $20 million.

The Show spoke to Wilner about what the next steps are for the conference commissioner and university leaders.
