New Grand Canyon Superintendent Brings Legal Background To Job

Grand Canyon National Park has a new superintendent. The National Park Service has announced Ed Keable will take over the position in the next couple of months.

Keable, an attorney, has worked for the Interior Department’s Office of the Solicitor for more than two decades. And, despite not having run a national park before, he’ll take over one that welcomed nearly 6 million visitors last year.

Flagstaff-based journalist Annette McGivney has written extensively about the Grand Canyon and some of the problems that have plagued the park over the past several years — including allegations of harassment and a dysfunctional work environment.

The Show spoke with her about what the new superintendent brings to the park and its guests.
