Saint Mary’s Food Bank is changing its rules for food distribution starting Monday.
Clients at both Saint Mary’s Food Bank locations will no longer be allowed to leave their cars. Volunteers will load boxes of food into clients’ trunks or truck-beds.
Hours are changing too — instead of being open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., they’ll now be open from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Spokesperson Jerry Brown says the shortened hours allow volunteers to spend more time assembling food boxes for clients, which is necessary now due in part to unprecedented demand.
Typically, St. Mary’s distributes about 45,000 boxes each month. In March of this year, that amount nearly doubled.
