Arizona Universities Considering Cost-Saving Measures Amid Pandemic

Arizona universities are facing tough financial choices as the coronavirus pandemic continues. 

University of Arizona's Financial Sustainability Emergency Response Taskforce has recommended a campus wide hiring freeze through June and is considering salary freezes or furloughs.

The university also has withdrawn financial aid offers from graduate students who had not yet accepted their admission offers. The university did not withdraw admission offers to those students. UA spokeswoman Pam Scott said it did not withdraw financial aid offers from students who had previously accepted their offers. 

Arizona State University said has not frozen all hiring but searches are only proceeding for key positions approved by executive leadership. It said it's not considering furloughs or salary freezes at this time. 

Northern Arizona University said it’s still reviewing all its options.
