Earth Day is meant to celebrate the great outdoors, but many celebrations have turned online this year. Amid the pandemic, here is what four Arizona organizations are doing to mark the 50th anniversary of Earth Day while maintaining social distancing.
Biosphere 2
The University of Arizona’s Biosphere 2 research center had planned to host an Earth Day 5K run but had to postpone the event due to social distancing restrictions. John Adams, Biosphere 2 deputy director, made the run alone in a Facebook Live video. Biosphere 2 officials are also giving a virtual tour of the facility during its Virtual EarthFest 2020.
Phoenix Zoo
Phoenix Zoo is sharing videos about resident animals and leading virtual activities throughout the day.
ASU School of Sustainability
The ASU School of Sustainability is bringing together a virtual panel with experts discussing the pandemic and the state of the planet.
Local First Arizona
Local First Arizona is hosting a livestream event featuring Arizona businesses in a discussion about climate change beginning at 5 p.m. on Facebook.
