The Navajo Nation issued a new executive order Tuesday that extends its government closure and declaration of state of emergency to May 17.
The extended closure includes all government departments, programs, enterprises and casinos.
Essential government functions will continue, and essential personnel also are allowed to continue their duties, said President Jonathan Nez.
“We’re not letting our guard down — now is not the time," he said. "We’re seeing a slight flattening of the curve, but we have to remain vigilant.
A previous executive order was set to expire April 26.
The shelter-in-place order and daily curfew from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. will remain in place under the new executive order.
The Navajo Nation also is implementing another 57-hour weekend curfew this Friday night through Monday morning.
Nez and Vice President Myron Lizer ask residents stocking up for the weekend curfew to only send one family member to purchase essential items.
