Arizona housing and property construction markets have seen some significant changes over the last month due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Home construction companies are considered essential businesses and have remained in operation, but with some differences.
Housing projects are seeing small crews at work, and sales offices have also changed their practices.
Last year, Arizona experienced its largest increase in home building since 2007, and the industry would face a massive loss if forced to shut down.
“Hundreds of thousands of people right now who are in the process of having their new homes constructed," said Andy Warren, chairman for the Greater Phoenix Economic Council. "If it was to stop, it would create sort of an abrupt end to many people's lives who have to be out of current residences or on leases that are expiring — whatever it might happen to be.”
Warren says much of the action being taken by construction companies is inspired by what they experienced during the 2008 recession.
