Arizona Attorney General Mark Brnovich is asking the Supreme Court to weigh in on the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruling on state election laws.
In January, the federal appeals court ruled an Arizona law restricting so-called ballot harvesting discriminated against minorities. The majority of the court said the law, which prevents anyone other than a family member from turning in someone else’s ballot, was crafted to suppress voter turnout.
The 9th Circuit also struck down an Arizona law preventing out-of-precinct voting.
The Court of Appeals then granted Arizona a stay on both rulings after the attorney general said he would be appealing the decision to the Supreme Court.
Brnovich filed that petition Monday, arguing the state adopted the laws "to promote the order and integrity of its elections."
