Arizona Coalition Creates COVID-19 Fund For Undocumented Workers

An Arizona coalition is  raising funds for undocumented workers in the state.

Democratic State Rep. Raquel Terán, one of the coalition's organizers, said undocumented workers contribute more than $7 billion annually to Social Security. But these immigrants are not eligible to receive unemployment benefits or most federal COVID-19 disaster relief funds.

“These families are vital contributors to our economy but they are suffering through this crisis as well. We must do what we can to help. Our state cannot and will not fully recover from this crisis if we leave these communities behind," she said.

The fund will provide these workers with support for rent, food and other essential needs.

The coalition is made up of more than 20 community groups including One Arizona, the Arizona Dream Act Coalition and Puente Human Rights Movement.
