Shortly after Congress approved the more than $2 trillion CARES Act to help people affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, questions started coming in about the money allocated for higher education.
Of that $12 billion piece of the bill, roughly half goes to colleges and universities, with the other half going to students. But, in clarifying how that money could be spent, the U.S. Education Department said one group of college students is not eligible for that money: Deferred Action For Childhood Arrivals recipients.
To understand this impact, The Show spoke with ASU junior Andres Mendoza, a DACA recipient, special education and elementary education major and a member of the group Undocumented Students for Education Equity.
