Pet Adoptions Soar In U.S. As Pandemic Continues

During stay-at-home orders, some people may be getting bored or lonely. To deal with this boredom, some are turning to animal shelters for what the internet is referring to as “corona-cats” or “corona-dogs” — furry pets to keep them company while they’re stuck inside.

So many people have been adopting new friends in fact, that animal shelters across the nation have been completely cleaned out for the first time.

An adoption center in Florida and another in California have empty shelters, and New York is seeing 10 times as many adoption applications as usual.
