In April, Gov. Doug Ducey temporarily increased the gross weight limit of commercial vehicles until the end of May.
The weight limit was increased from 80,000 pounds to 90,000 pounds. The change applies only to vehicles carrying supplies related to COVID-19 relief efforts. That includes grocery, medical, and pharmaceutical products.
ADOT spokeperson Ryan Harding said the roads shouldn’t see too much of an effect since trucks often pass through Arizona that are more than 80,00 pounds. They just required an oversized permit to pass.
Ducey also opened up two rest areas exclusively for commercial drivers along Interstate 17 and Interstate 40 near Flagstaff.
Commercial vehicles will still be required to follow maintenance and safety guidelines.
