In Arizona, the Citizens Clean Elections Commission will be hosting candidate debates in May and June, leading up to the Aug. 4, 2020 primary election for state and city offices.
Tom Collins, executive director of the commission, says the plan is to have those debates done and available online before early voting begins in July.
“We are moving the debates to a livestream video forum. And they will be available on YouTubeper livestream and then recorded and available on our website" Collins said.
He continued that it hasn’t been determined if this format will be used for general election debates, but if having the debates online generates more public interaction, they will consider the option even if there’s no public safety need.
Voters will be able to submit questions prior to the debate or call in during the livestream.
