Several airports around the country are requiring all staff and travelers to wear masks or face coverings, but Phoenix Sky Harbor International is not among them.
Starting Monday, Los Angeles International Airportwill make face coverings for everyone mandatory. San Diego, San Francisco and Denver are among those that already require masks.
Sky Harbor spokesperson Heather Shelbrack told KJZZ: “We are evaluating a variety of different possibilities as we speak to our stakeholders, associations and other airports across the country. While many businesses are requiring masks of their employees or customers, at this point we are not requiring every person in the airport to wear a mask.”
By Monday, most airlines will require passengers to wear face coverings. Airlines for America, a group that advocates on behalf of major U.S. airlines, says the companies are following or exceeding CDC guidance to help contain and stop the spread of COVID-19.
The group reports domestic flights are carrying about 20 to 25 passengers on average. During January and February, domestic flights averaged 85 to 100 passengers.
