The majority of Arizona’s COVID-19 cases are in its two most urban counties: Maricopa and Pima. However, some of the state’s more rural counties have also been hit hard.
A new analysis from the Pew Charitable Trusts finds when this coronavirus moves to rural America, those areas often struggle to deal with it. That’s due, in part, to population loss, which reduces the region’s tax base, which weakens its ability to build up a health care infrastructure.
But that’s not necessarily what’s happening in Arizona.
