While some states across the country are beginning to open up, the Navajo Nation will be putting all of its residents and businesses on lockdown.
The lockdown takes place this weekend and includes essential workers.
All stores, including supermarkets and gas stations, will be shut down for 57 hours starting Friday at 8 p.m. inside the Navajo Nation.
The Navajo Nation is per capita the hardest hit coronavirus area in the country.
Tribal President Jonathan Nez says their stay-at-home order will remain in place and the weekend curfew will be strict.
Nez says the reason this action is necessary is because of a recent spike in cases this week, followed by 16 new deaths.
As of Thursday night, the Nation has reported a total of 127 deaths and 3,632 cases. Only about 500 have recovered.
