Phoenix Police Will Deploy Extra DUI Enforcement Over Memorial Day Weekend

This weekend, the roads are expected to be busier with Memorial Day travelers coming in and out of the Valley.

That means more police officers will be on the road watching for drunk drivers.

The Phoenix Police Department will deploy a bigger DUI troop thanks to a grant awarded by the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety.

Sgt. Maggie Cox says staying safe this weekend will be a two-way effort.

“We will be out there making sure that our streets are safe," Cox said. "Hopefully, (we are) really encouraging the proactive side of it. That the people that are heading out this weekend are being responsible and planning ahead.”

Many of the extra DUI patrols will start Friday and last through Monday.
