Homeland Security officials have published a report on how facial recognition technology affects privacy.
The 30-page document says there are both government and private face recognition services. The tool is used in probes done by an arm of Immigration and Customs Enforcement called Homeland Security Investigations.
The report analyzes 13 dangers the technology poses to privacy. It says the risks have been eased in all but two cases.
One is that federal officials can’t make sure private companies give people enough notice that their biometric information may be used with facial recognition matching. The other privacy threat is that people can’t access or correct faulty information held by companies with facial recognition services.
