There is a widening gap in how different demographics are experiencing the COVID-19 pandemic. Not only are minorities continuing to become infected and die from the disease at much higher rates than white people, but now, it seems clear that minorities are being hit economically harder as well.
Pew Research recently found that nearly half of Hispanics say they or someone else in their household has taken a paycut or lost a job because of the pandemic. That’s compared with 33% of all adults in the country.
And, a new study from Latino Decisions shows millions of Latino families and businesses didn’t get any aid from the federal government’s $1 trillion CARES Act — half reported not being able to receive any loans under the initial stimulus bill.
How is this playing out on the ground in Arizona, where so many small businesses are owned by Latinos?
