Arizona indigenous lawmakers have called for an investigation into faulty masks sent to the Navajo Nation. Thousands of them could be useless.
The Arizona Indigenous Peoples’ Caucus released a statement on Thursday saying they were deeply disturbed that nearly 250,000 breathing masks delivered to the Navajo Nation may not be suitable for medical use. The caucus said another 130,000 may also be ineffective.
The caucus went on to criticize Gov. Doug Ducey, saying "the governor’s rosy outlook ignores the fact that the Navajo Nation now has the highest per-capita COVID-19 infection rate in U.S., outpacing New York."
The statement calls for an immediate state and federal investigation "into why the Navajo Nation was sent faulty [personal protective equipment] by a company owned by Josh Fuentes, a former deputy chief of staff for President Trump and further, a company that had no experience in production or delivery of [personal protective equipment]."
