Record-Breaking Heat This Weekend, Continues Through Sunday

A high-pressure system that brought record-breaking heat to the area isn’t showing any signs of letting up in the immediate future.

National Weather Service meteorologist Marvin Percha says the extreme heat warning will remain in effect until at least 8 p.m. Sunday.

"We’re looking for temperatures to approach or reach the 110-mark through then," Percha said. "It’s a pretty long-lived event, actually quite unusual for late May, to see something this hot for this long."

Friday’s high temperature tied the record set in 1910 — 112 degrees. Temperatures should start to cool off a little bit by Monday, with highs reaching the low triple digits.
