MEXICO CITY — While protests continued throughout the United States last weekend after the death of George Floyd, thousands of people in Mexico rallied against their president — riding their vehicles.
Videos online show caravans of vehicles in several parts of Mexico, including Mexico City’s main square. They honk against president Andrés Manuel López Obrador or AMLO, asking for his resignation.
Protesters question AMLO’s results after being in power for a year and a half, including his apparent relaxed approach toward COVID-19.
Behind the protests are several organizations against AMLO, including one headed by businessmen from northern Mexico.
López Obrador stated that his opponents need to cool their heels. He says he’s pushing for a midterm election when people will be able to vote for his withdrawal
And while the pandemic spreads, the president this week has started a tour around Mexico.
