The White Mountain Apache Tribe in eastern Arizona is still struggling with the coronavirus.
The tribe has more than 800 positive cases out of 16,000 tribal members. As the state reopens, Chairwoman Gwendena Lee-Gatewood told her tribe on social media that their stay-at-home order remains in place.
“The virus moves when the people move so the people that are sick they are still quarantined,” Lee-Gatewood said. “We need to exercise our social distancing, wash our hands, do everything possible to protect ourselves and our loved ones.”
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said Native Americans are some of the most vulnerable to the coronavirus because of economic, geographic and health conditions.
