Want To Hike 'The Wave?' The In-Person Permit Lottery Returns Next Week

The Bureau of Land Management has announced that the in-person lottery for hiking permits at Coyote Buttes North — known for its iconic sandstone rock formation “the Wave” — will resume next June 15.

After suspending the hiking lottery in March due to COVID-19 concerns, the Bureau of Land Management says they’ll begin again next week.

Coyote Buttes North, famous for its Wave rock formation, is located between Page, Arizona, and Kanab, Utah. Permits are given out using a lottery, and during the pandemic, the in-person lottery had been shut down.

The BLM typically issues 20 hiking permits per day into the Wave — and in peak hiking season, only about 4% of applicants are awarded permits. They cost $7 per person per day.
