As of Tuesday, a new vaping ordinance goes into effect in Mesa.
The ordinance includes vaping and the use of vaping devices to existing citywide no-smoking regulations. It is treated the same way as tobacco is prohibited in some public spaces and places of employment.
Mesa City Councilmember David Luna says the ordinance was the result of the public expressing their concerns around vaping to council members and the mayor.
Some were concerned about the unknown long-term effects, second-hand exposure and youth use.
The order does not affect someone’s ability to use or buy vaping products outside no-smoking areas, or the legality of established vaping shops.
