The World Health Organization has sparked confusion this week with comments about asymptomatic carriers of coronavirus.
The confusion came when the World Health Organization said Monday that asymptomatic people rarely spread the disease. The WHO has since corrected that statement and said the rate of asymptomatic spread is unknown.

The organization was criticized for making statements with little evidence to support them.
Will Humble is the executive director of the Arizona Public Health Association and the state’s former public health director. He says the WHO’s claims went against much of the evidence he has seen.
“If a staffer is going to make a statement that dramatic and that impactful, then it really needs to be backed up with some good, peer-reviewed data and evidence, and I didn’t see that with yesterday's comment. And so I’m still convinced that there’s still a lot of asymptomatic spread," Humble said.
Humble added that he still supports the WHO, but he believes it needs better criteria and standards for its public statements.
