Fountain Hills Protest Canceled After Social Media Backlash

A Black Lives Matter protest in Fountain Hills on Wednesday has been canceled over concerns about a possible counter protest.

About nine women from Fountain Hills wanted to show their support for Black Lives Matter. The event consisted of a short march and a few brief statements. Rory Wilson says the mayor gave the protest a green light.

“And she was supportive, she just said as long as we didn’t need any permits, then we should be fine because it was a peaceful protest,” Wilson said.

But social media comments grew heated. Wilson said the protesters were concerned that a counter protest would create social distancing problems. She said the group plans to stage the protest later.
