There has been a sharp increase in COVID-19 hospitalizations in Arizona, but according to a new statewide survey, an individual’s level of concern may depend on their political affiliation.
Pollster Mike Noble of OH Predictive Insights says a survey of 600 likely voters shows worry has grown slightly for Democrats, with 85% now expressing concern, compared to 82% in April. By contrast, only 32% of Republicans are now concerned — down sharply from 55% in April.
"Republicans have dropped significantly. They didn't start very high. But they also went down," said Noble. "And it's interesting that even with an issue such as this, this is even seeing the political polarization that we're kind of seeing on many other issues."
As for Gov. Doug Ducey’s performance, 59% approve of his handling of the crisis. However, Noble thinks Ducey’s approval rating could drop by July’s survey because of the spike in cases.
