Nearly two weeks after Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport started requiring people to wear face coverings in public places, the federal government sent supplies.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency shipped 1.8 million masks to Sky Harbor. Airport spokesperson Heather Shelbrack told KJZZ that masks will be distributed to companies that operate at Sky Harbor to share with their employees.
Staff in the terminals will also carry masks to give passengers who need them and they should be available upon request at information counters. Homemade cloth masks and bandannas are acceptable as long as they cover your nose and mouth.
Starting today, city of Phoenix employees will face stricter rules as a result of rising COVID-19 cases in Arizona.
In an email to nearly 14,000 employees, City Manager Ed Zuercher says face coverings are required in common areas at all times when social distancing of at least six feet cannot be maintained. That includes elevators, hallways, break rooms and meeting rooms.
The email also bans work group gatherings, luncheons and potlucks and encourages minimal interactions between employees.
In May, the City Council approved coronavirus testing for all Phoenix employees, regardless of whether they are part of the city’s insurance plan. The testing is voluntary and costs are covered through federal coronavirus relief funds.
