The Arizona Coyotes have faced drama on and off the ice, but there’s been considerably more off — thanks to instability and uncertainty at the ownership level.
The emergence of businessman Alex Meruelo as the organization’s new owner last year brought with it a level of optimism that hasn’t been seen much around the Coyotes. Meruelo is extremely wealthy and seemingly willing to spend considerably on players and facilities. And his Latino heritage was an encouraging sign that the team would embrace diversity to an even greater extent.
And now a new President and CEO has been named. He is Xavier Gutierrez, who has partnered with Meruelo on a bank and other deals. He is also the first Latino to lead a National Hockey League organization.
Gutierrez joined The Show to talk about the Coyotes and what could be next — including a new arena.
