MEXICO CITY — Mexico’s president has kept a close dialogue with President Trump, particularly on issues such as trade, oil, migration, security and the coronavirus pandemic. And now, both leaders are planning to meet for the first time.
President Andrés Manuel López Obrador confirmed the plans from both heads of state to meet in Washington.
The date is still undetermined, but AMLO said the meeting will most likely welcome the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Free Trade Agreement, which takes effect July 1.
"I want to thank President Trump for providing ventilators during the pandemic," AMLO said.
The Mexican president also stated that he'd like to thank Trump for backing up Mexico on its oil production and agreeing to negotiate the USMCA trade instead of starting conflicts.
The Mexican president said he hopes the U.S. also invites Justin Trudeau, Canada’s prime minister, to the meeting.
