Diamondbacks Pitcher Mike Leake Opts Out Of 2020 Season

Arizona Diamondbacks pitcher Mike Leake has opted out of the 2020 season. He is one of the first players to decide not to play in the abbreviated season due to coronavirus concerns.

Leake was expected to compete for a spot in the Diamondbacks’ starting rotation.

His agent said in a statement that Leake’s family had numerous discussions about the upcoming 60-game season.

He didn’t elaborate, other than to say the discussions were private.

The right-hander wished the D-backs well and said he is looking forward to 2021.

Diamondbacks general manager Mike Hazen also said two players on Arizona’s 60-man roster have tested positive for COVID-19.
