At a press conference Monday, Gov. Doug Ducey announced the state would give long-term care facilities and skilled nursing homes $10,000 each to buy electronic devices, like iPads. In April, Ducey had ordered that all long-term care facilities must provide some type of electronic communication device so residents could communicate with their families, but that wasn’t always happening.
One reason was staffing. Dana Marie Kennedy is the state director of AARP Arizona.
"So they may already have the technology available, but they don't have the staff. So they could actually allocate these resources to hire a staff person to be able to make sure these virtual visitations and to do a little more hand holding," Kennedy said.
That news was part of a new executive order that pushed the reopening of schools to at least Aug. 17 and saw the temporary closures of bars, gyms, movie theaters and water parks.
