Tempe Mayor-elect Corey Woods posted on his social media Tuesday night that he tested positive for COVID-19 after being tested on Monday.

Woods was supposed to be sworn in at a small in-person ceremony on Thursday, which has now been moved entirely online.

“I think there were a number of factors, I think that my testing positive may have played a part,” said Woods, “but I also know that given the governor’s announcement on Tuesday about beginning to shut things down again because of the spike in cases in Arizona, I know that also played a role.”

Woods said he will be sitting down with Tempe City Council immediately after his swearing in to discuss additional measures to flatten the curve in Tempe.
