Dr. Deborah Birx of the White House Coronavirus Task Force has called for more testing in Arizona, especially among people who are asymptomatic.

Birx met Tuesday via Zoom with Gov. Doug Ducey, health department director Dr. Cara Christ and experts from Arizona State University, including Dr. Joshua LaBaer, executive director of ASU's Bodesign Institute.

"The role of asymptomatic spread is clearly a key element to the spread of this virus in the community. And we need to be doing more testing of asymptomatic individuals to find out where this virus is hiding and to get those people isolated to prevent the spread of the illness," said LaBaer.

LaBaer said the group also discussed the looming hospital crisis and the need for better messaging to encourage young people to slow the spread.
