MEXICO CITY — On Wednesday, President Donald Trump will host his Mexican counterpart in Washington. According to the Mexican president, the main goal of the meeting is to address the newly implemented U.S.-Mexico-Canada Trade Agreement or USMCA. But one key part will be missing.
Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador confirmed that Canada’s prime minister, Justin Trudeau, will not attend the meeting in Washington.
López Obrador said they invited Canada to participate in the encounter to celebrate the trinational trade agreement but instead, Trudeau might visit Mexico at some point soon.
Critics of López Obrador say his visit follows president Trump’s political needs. But the Mexican president says this trip will strengthen the friendship between both nations.
While in Washington, López Obrador plans to visit the monuments of Abraham Lincoln and his Mexican counterpart, Benito Juárez.
