Phoenix Police Chief Jeri Williams announced July 7 that she is calling on the FBI to investigate the July 4 shooting of James Garcia in Maryvale. In addition, she is speeding up the release of bodycam footage from the incident.

Video taken by a bystander shows Phoenix police officers confronting Garcia in a parked car on a driveway. The situation turned heated and an officer shot into the vehicle, killing Garcia. The department has said Garcia had a gun and raised it toward officers.

The shooting has sparked protests here in Arizona, putting the Phoenix Police Department under scrutiny during a time of national unrest.

The Show spoke to Williams about why she called for an FBI investigation.
