New Mexico has seen a spike in COVID-19 cases in the last couple of weeks, so the state is asking travelers to self quarantine.
The state is asking travelers to remain in their hotel rooms for 14 days or the length of their stay.
New Mexico shares borders with both Arizona and Texas, which have seen COVID-19 cases rise quickly in recent weeks.
In addition, New Mexico state parks will close to out of state travelers beginning July 13.
Department of Tourism spokesman Cody Johnson said the restrictions have come at a busy time for New Mexico tourism, but they are necessary.
“You know we’re at a moment where it’s, travel is a challenge, and acknowledging that is kind of what we have to do in our response to hopefully spread of the virus here in New Mexico,” Johnson said.
The executive order lists a number of exempt businesses and prohibits indoor dining in restaurants. The state also requires that masks be worn in public.
